Is Clay Tile Roofing Right For You?

Gregory Walker

When it comes time to install a new roof, you may find yourself wondering what roofing material is best for you. After all, you want to find materials that match your style, budget, and are as energy-efficient as possible. If you tend to find the charm of old-world style or Mediterranean architecture and roofing right up your alley, you are likely considering installing a clay tile roof. Before you make your final decision, however, you should weigh all of the benefits and potential detriments of installing a clay tile roof. Once you understand all of the factors, you can properly choose the right roofing material for you.

Aesthetic Considerations

Clay tile roofing is aesthetically distinctive. These tiles are particularly appropriate for homes that are European in style and design, harkening back to the romance of old-world Spain and Italy.

However, they are not just limited to that particular style, and can be used in certain modern-style homes as well.  If you own a modern home, you may want to make a digital composite image to determine if clay tiles will look appropriate.

As far as color goes, clay tiles come in a variety of colors from the traditional rust color white and everything in between. No matter the color scheme of your home, you can find a clay tile to match.

 Durability and Longevity

Clay tile roofing is extremely durable. It is one of the longest lasting roofing material choices with a projected lifespan of 50 years or more with proper care and maintenance. This means once you install you clay tile roof, you will be highly unlikely to find yourself in need of a new roof again.

Clay tile is also tough and strong. For example, these tiles are not susceptible to damage caused by insects or rotting. This means that you will be spending less on roofing repairs in the future. It also does not burn like shingles or other roofing materials making it a safe roofing option as well.

Cost Analysis

Because of the quality of materials that go into the installation of a clay tile roof, the cost is more substantial than many other roofing options. Clay tile roofing costs between $700 and $1000 per square foot which represents a significant financial investment in your new roof.

However, the increased cost of materials can be offset by the fact that clay tile roofing will more than likely not need to be replaced during your lifetime. Additionally, a clay tile roof does not require a great deal of maintenance saving you further costs later on.

As you can see, there are many factors to consider when deciding if a clay tile roof is the right choice for you. Keep in mind your stylistic desires, your budget, and your roofing needs to reach your final decision. Then give your roofing contractors, like Belmarez Roofing, a call and get that new roof installed right away.

About Me
A Welder in the Office

Hi, I'm Caroline. Welding has always been really fascinating to me. One day, when I was at work in my office, we had a leaky pipe in the ceiling. After calling a plumber, he called a welder who came to repair the large, open pipe. As we were all sitting there trying to work, the welder just came in and started repairing the pipe! I had never worked on a construction site before, and I probably never will. But I started thinking about what it would actually be like to work on a construction site, which led to me exploring construction themes and writing this blog!
