Four Tips To Help You Deal With A Failing Septic Drain Field Line

Gregory Walker

If your home relies on a septic system for waste treatment, the drain field is an important component of the system. This is where the affluent drains from the tank and filters through the soil. If you have an older system, a failing drain field can lead to problems with the tank and plumbing in your home. Here are some tips to help you deal with a failing septic drain field to prevent series plumbing problems:

1. Aeration Techniques To Fix Collapsing Septic Drain Lines

There are many things that can cause a septic tank to fail, such as a collapsed or clogged drain line. These lines are often conventional drain tiles in a ditch lined with gravel. If you are looking for an affordable repair to your septic system, aeration can sometimes be used to clear the drain field and fix the problem.

2. Replacing The Septic Lines With Conventional Drain Tiles

Another option to repair your septic system is completely replacing the drain tiles. This is an option if repairs like aeration have not worked to clear the lines or if the lines are just too old and worn. You can have them replaced with the same conventional drain system that was originally used, which will be more affordable than some of the alternatives.

3. Using A Chambered Drain Field System For Better Drainage

If you can afford to install an improved drainage system, a chamber septic drain field can be a good choice. This is a system that uses different chambers filled with filtration medium for better drainage. A chamber drain field will be less likely to collapse or become clogged. With additional filtration medium, these systems can also help to protect ground water supplies if your home is on a well.

4. Installing A Larger Drain Field With Distribution Box For Improved Drainage

There are also systems that use a distribution box and multiple drain tile lines. This can be a good system to spread drainage over a larger area. It can also cost less than some of the larger chambered systems. If you want to have a more affordable solution, but still have improved performance, this is a good option for you.

These are some tips to help you with the problems that can come from a failing septic drain field. If you need help with repairs to your drain lines, contact a septic repair service such as Moon Septic and talk with them about what can be done to repair your system and prevent problems.

About Me
A Welder in the Office

Hi, I'm Caroline. Welding has always been really fascinating to me. One day, when I was at work in my office, we had a leaky pipe in the ceiling. After calling a plumber, he called a welder who came to repair the large, open pipe. As we were all sitting there trying to work, the welder just came in and started repairing the pipe! I had never worked on a construction site before, and I probably never will. But I started thinking about what it would actually be like to work on a construction site, which led to me exploring construction themes and writing this blog!
